1/20/08 - RE Upper
So today was very likely the beginning of the end, despite what Rick might think. I have been struggling with some critical health issues for the past two years and those issues have recently become pretty rough due to switching treatment methods.
I have been expecting a drop in strength for a couple weeks now, but miraculously, I've held up until now. At this point, all my joints ache, I have very little endurance, and I'm lethargic pretty much always. I'm slated to have another blood test this Friday to see where I am. Hopefully I can get off the current treatment at that point and get back on what worked.
RE Bench 255x4 255x5 255x4
Note: I had a REALLY hard time tonight...I should be repping this weight out at around 7 or 8 reps, but for some reason I simply could not muster the will to do it. I think I've been messing with my footplacement and grip entirely too much.
Pull-ups BWx6, BWx6, BWx5, BWx5, BWx5, BWx4
Band Pull Aparts purplex20 purplex20
Band Face Pulls Greenx20 Greenx20
Bench Lockouts 405x10 seconds 455x7.5 seconds
Note: pain in the left wrist here - old injury from a serious car accident in 2005. Had to drop the 455 early.

I think I've been messing with my footplacement and grip entirely too much. I think that's pretty much your answer right there. I know your sh*t's all f*cked up, but it'll get sorted out one way or another soon bro. Seriously those reps are usually automatic for you (even on a bad day), but you didn't seem nearly as smooth on them as you usually are- I honestly think you just need to get more used to different form from a neurological standpoint and you'll be fine. I'm certainly not trying to downplay your health sh*t, but there was more than that going on. Plus your workout last night was a much better showing.

Brett - Thanks man - chances are I'm just being a whiney b!tch, but the stuff I'm dealing with does put me at a disadvantage when it comes to lifting/strength. I guess that means I gotta work twice as hard..!
Rick - in some sense you're right, but it doesn't make sense that 255, a weight I can usually manhandle, felt like a brick wall on top of me.
So I obviously haven't updated this log for about a week and a half now. The only notable thing to happen in the last week was a good squat PR, so I'll post that workout:
1/28/08 - Squats
135x10 185x6 225x3 275x3 315x3 365x3 * Added Briefs 405x1 455x1 505x1 585x1
Paused rep GHRs BWx20
Pretty decent PR, although it still only means I'm getting about 80 lbs out of these briefs. I've lost some muscle recently, so they are fitting a bit on the large side right now. As soon as I get my sh!t straightened out, I'll put muscle back on and make those things super tight.

This is your list of priorities: 1. Get your sh*t sorted out. 2. Eat more, you p*ssy. 3. Get big and strong.
You should link the video of the squat so everyone can make fun of Gabe's humming.

Rick - You're absolutely right, but #2 and 3 rely on #1. If I eat more in my current state, I'll get bigger....in the waist.
Brett - Thanks, and I will get my sh!t straight in the next 3 months. I'm kinda at the mercy of my doctor right now.
==========
1/30/08 - Bench
Notes: I wasn't feeling good coming into this workout and a series of mistakes made it a relatively crappy workout. When I first shirted up, I put on the wrong shirt, and it fu@ked me royally. Once I finally got on the right shirt I did okay, but I was already screwed from the previous lifts.
95x10 135x10 185x6 225x4 225x4 *Added Shirt 365x1 (3 board) 405x1 (2 board) * This is when I realized that I was in the wrong shirt...the shirted work prior to this was sloppy and terrible. I decided to try 4 plates again in the right shirt. 405x1 (2 board) - MUCH better 455x1 (1 board) 475xmiss ***I almost had the 475, but I lost my breath about halfway back up and couldn't lock it out.
Cable Machine Pressdowns w/ bands
stack+2 minisx10 stack+1 mini+1 lightx10 stack+2 lightsx10
* Also did some RC work that burned like hell.
Overall, I was not happy with this workout. My back continues to be a problem on heavy bench from the herniated disc I had last year. I'm also still shaky as hell in the shirt.

Last 3 workouts:
1/31 - Back work
Fat Boy Rows with Chains BW+Cx10 - 4 sets
One arm DB Rows 95x15/15 - 2 sets
2/3/05 - RE Upper
Notes: I went easy on my pressing today because of the back pain I've had recently. I think my spine will thank me later. Used a very minimal arch on these.
Bench - Raw 135x10 185x6 225x10 245x6 255x5 255x5
Pullups - Parallel Grip BWx5, 6, 5, 5, 5, 4
* band pull aparts * pressdowns
2/4 - Heavy Squat
High Box Squats w/ chains
Notes: all sets done raw. I get paranoid about losing my raw strength if I use briefs all the time. Chains~62lbs at top 135x10 185x8 185+cx3 225+cx3 275+cx3 315+cx3 365+cx3 405+cx2 455+cx1 495+cx1 545+cx1
* band crunches * GHRs

hey don`t do anything dumb man your back is your life man go easy for awhile give it a break I don`t want to be pushing you in a wheelchair anytime soon Brett - oddly enough, my back seems fine on heavy squats. Go figure. It's bench that's really killing it. It's funny because I herniated the lumbar when I was doing full squats...

Hey guy's be easy with the back, I've had trouble in the past and it's no fun having to tip toe around what you can do and not do. It probably set me back 6 months because I'd feel a little bit better and hit it hard and get it pissed at me again and couldn't do nothing for 2 weeks. I did this several times before I learned. Besure it's HEALED not just feeling better before you go at it hard. Just my experience.

Greg - solid advice -- thanks. The issue stems from a herniated disc in my lumbar region. I herniated it doing a full squat when my a$$ tucked under and I lost my arch about a year ago. This is why I can't understand why bench hurts it so much. When benching, I have an incredibly tight arch. It would only make sense if it hurt when I bent forward, not arched back.
2/10/08 - DE Bench
Speed Bench *chains=62 lbs 185+c x 3 for 9 sets using alternating grips
Notes: Speed felt good and consistent here.
Pull-ups BWx7, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5
Band Pull Aparts note: I gripped the band about 7-8" in to make this more challenging Avgx19 Avgx14
Band Face Pulls Lightx20 Lightx20
comments: Rick recently purchased a used bench shirt. I can't remember what is was, except to say it's Inzer. This thing is a beast. It has absolutely no give and it's the hardest, nastiest material I've felt on a bench shirt so far. I believe it's canvas. We played with it a little, but didn't go heavy since it wasn't a max effort day:
315x1 (3b) 365x1 (3b)

Brett - it's coming along man. Thanks for the concern.
Last Two Workouts:
2/11/08 - Squat
High Box Squats w/ chains - all sets done raw 135+cx5 185+cx5 225+cx3 275+cx3 315+cx3 365+cx3 405+cx2 455+cx1 515+cx1 550+cx1 * This was a PR for me, but it was ugly.
GHRs BW+45x20 - 2 sets
banded abs minix15 minix15
2/13/08 - Bench
Floor Press
135x3 155x3 175x3 195x3 215x3 225x3 245x1 255x1 265x1 265x1 * Floor Presses=much harder than regular bench due to lack of leg drive. Still a PR, the only other time I did these I maxed at 225.
Fat Boy Rows w/ chains BWx10 BW=Cx10 for 4 sets
Banded skullcrushers Average+25x7 Light+45x8 Light+45x8
DB Rows - 1 arm 95x15/15 95x15/15
