1/28/08- Heavy Squats @ RHOAC Squatswarmup 6 x 135 lb. 5 x 185 lb. 3 x 225 lb. 2 x 275 lb. 1 x 315 lb. add Metal Pro Briefs 1 x 365 lb. (high) 1 x 405 lb. 1 x 455 lb. 1 x 505 lb. (PR) 1 x 525 lb. (PR)That was heavy and I'm glad I hit it. I've got the vid for the 505 as well, but I'm probably not going to bother uploading it. Brett it's looking like Wednesday is a go and we'll probably have Gabe again- hopefully that's not too much of an imposition.

Thanks Brett. It was great to come down tonight as always.
1/30/08- Heavy Bench at Clayton Bench warmed up to 225 lb. and put on a double ply Katana- this was Karl's shirt that he was gracious enough to let me use and hopefully stretch out a little. 1 x 365 lb. (3 board) 1 x 405 lb. (2 board) 1 x 425 lb. (1 board) miss x 435 lb. (couldn't lock it out)
Standing Pressdowns 13 x stack + 2 mini bands 10 x stack + mini band, light band* 9 x stack + 2 light bands* (* I'm not sure how Brett's bands match up with mine but these looked like light ones, width-wise)
Cuban Press Rotator Thingers 20, 15
So this was a great workout. I wish I'd had enough left in me to hit that last lift, but I don't think I was real far off, and that 425 off one board was a sizable PR.
Everything that went wrong with me last time went right this week- I felt stable and relatively confident under the bar, and I think I did a pretty good job about being patient, staying under control, and getting the bar down more slowly and keeping it where it needed to be. I'm thinking I may invest in a bench shirt fairly soon.
Also, I wanted to say thanks again to Brett and Chad and Brian and everybody for being such gracious hosts as always. It was also nice to meet Karl- thanks again for letting me borrow your shirt.

So I don't know what I keep doing to myself but something keeps happening to me when I get shirted up. Last night I specifically didn't put the belt on real tight because I thought that had f**ked me up last time, but I'm still torn up.
I have a bruise in a similar place as last time, but I'm really swollen there this time. Enough so that I got concerned enough to go to the doctor because I was worried it was a hernia or something (which I sure as nuts don't need). He doesn't think it is, but we're going to wait and see if it gets any worse- deadlifts are probably out for tonight.
Sucks.

I can't walk today because of my back, so I'm with ya on the no deadlifts front. This is one thing that I don't think heavy deadlifts can solve for me...

So just as an update- I haven't been in the gym aside from some RC work and stretching since Wednesday- at this point I'm thinking I may have partially torn the bottom of both my obliques as there is a hard, painful ridge on each side where there should just be smooth muscle. Hopefully it's just a hematoma or something, but the bruise is dissipating so I'd think that other fluid accumulation would have as well. I'm expecting to be back in the gym doing light work on Thursday to see how things feel. Until then I'm going crazy because I hate not training.

Hahahaha well I appreciate it Brett- no need to worry though... I think we just had that belt on too tight that first night and the second time aggravated it or reopened it or something. I'll take things slow and let it heal up and it'll be good as new. But yeah though Justin's back worries the sh*t outta me.

Worry you not, Captain Groin Bruise. Just heal up so you can try to hit up some light work on Thursday.

So I finally got back in the gym for real tonight and it went reasonably well, all things considered. I had gone in a couple times to keep Justin and Gabe company and did a little light RC, upper back, and tricep work, but nothing real until tonight. Still took things pretty easy though.
2/7/08- Deadlifts @ RHOAC Deadlifts- conventional 8 x 135 lb. 5 x 185 lb. 5 x 225 lb. 5 x 275 lb. 3 x 315 lb. 2 x 365 lb. 1 x 405 lb. miss x 405 lb.
Rack Pulls- bottom of knees 8 x 225 lb. 5 x 315 lb. 1 x 405 lb.
Spread-Eagle Situps 15 x 25 lb. 15 x 25 lb.
Kept everything pretty light, and didn't want to push it too hard. I had a slight twinge of pain on the first 405 dead and after that I just wasn't willing to fight too hard and risk f**king something up.
I followed this up by trying out my new toy- which may have been sort of silly to buy, but I guess time will tell. I was planning on buying a double denim shirt from Karin, but then I saw a gently used Inzer Ultimate Denim with all the bells and whistles for $100 so I picked that up, although I already knew it would be too much shirt for me.
I probably need to wait until I have Justin and Gabe around before I give it a real shot because I'm definitely going to need to be working down with some boards- trying to touch wasn't getting me anywhere. I did figure out what bruised and mangled me though- having the belt on and then arching hard just stretched that area out too much... I felt it pulling a little hard tonight so I loosened the belt and arched less. I'll just have to let that heal before I expect to do any real shirted benching, and I'll have to figure out a way to do it without hurting.

Thanks Brett. Yeah man- the shirt is stiff as hell. I'm not entirely certain that it really fits right either- if the collar is flush against my chest I can't really get my shoulders in it. It didn't really chew me up that bad though, so maybe I'm alright. I may wet it down and just keep working at it. On a positive note I'm getting a massage at 3:30, which will be the highlight of my day.

Hahahahaha not usually (unless you consider my hips and back feeling good to be a happy ending ), but maybe today's the day... especially since I was going to see if she wouldn't mind doing some work on my lower ab issues. ;D Derek man- out of curiousity did you ever make any more progress with this? My shirt isn't quite that tight in the chest, but since it's denim (or canvas technically I guess) I'm not expecting it to stretch out a whole lot. Basically I'm just wondering how hopeful you think I should be about getting it on right.
